Childhood is supposed to be an innocent, fun-filled time in a person’s life free of worries and concerns. But in today’s high-pressure environment, even the youngest of children can feel the pressures. The sooner a parent recognizes the problem, the sooner the child can receive help from a trained professional. At the office of Christopher Viagrande NP Psychiatry, PLLC, we understand the emotional difficulties and behavioral issues facing many children and adolescents and provide the skilled, compassionate care they require to cope and thrive.
Childhood and adolescents struggling with mental health issues often exhibit behavioral difficulties. These behaviors may be signs of depression, anxiety, an impulse control disorder, or acting out. By working with children to address the root of the problem, we can help our young patients develop appropriate coping mechanisms and a deeper understanding of their reactions to certain situations.
Anxiety in adolescence is a very common mental health issue. The truth is with all the social, academic, and in certain cases familial pressures that young people feel today, it’s easy to understand how some teenagers exhibit excessive responses to ordinary or mildly stressful circumstances. The truth is that the fear or dread that a youngster with an anxiety disorder experiences can be so overwhelming as to impair normal daily function.
They may also have trouble sleeping, exhibit a decline in academic functioning, as well as have difficulties with peer interactions and family relationships. Additional signs and symptoms that an anxiety disorder is present can include trembling, sweating and shortness of breath, as well as complaints of other ailments such as stomachaches, headaches, and muscle aches. As skilled providers of care, we recognize the physical and emotional manifestations associated with anxiety disorders, and are well equipped to provide the sensitive and experienced care that is needed. Depending on the severity of the diagnosed disorder and the level of impairment, treatment may include a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches including psychiatric care, cognitive behavioral, parent training, and family therapy. In some cases, medications or a combination of therapy and medications may be recommended.
At the office of Christopher Viagrande NP Psychiatry, PLLC, we’re dedicated to providing the highest quality of skilled and compassionate care. For more information on our practice and the many services we provide, give our office a call today.
